Honmachi Minami Garden City is located midway along Midosuji Avenue and is at an important point for transportation as many of the major highways and subway lines running in all directions through Osaka’s city center intersect here. Once the seat of Osaka’s main local industry of textiles, Honmachi has been known as one of Osaka’s representative business districts for centuries and has given birth to numerous famous enterprises such as Itochu Corporation, Marubeni and Toyobo.
The area underwent a major overhaul in 2012 when the mayor of Osaka unveiled plans to transform it into a shopping destination to rival the Champs-Elysées in Paris, Bond Street in London or Orchard Road in Singapore.
These days along Midosuji Avenue, you will find world-famous brand-name stores and showrooms of luxury foreign supercars (including Lamborghini located on 1st floor of Honmachi Garden City) that have made this Avenue one of Japan’s most distinguished ‘brand’ streets. Flagship stores of Prada, Hermès, Louis Vuitton, Harry Winston, Omega, Tiffany & Co, but also the Apple Store and major branches of Nike and Puma call this Avenue home. Thanks to the convenient distance between Midosuji Avenue, the large-scale underground shopping center, Crysta Nagahori, the bustling shopping district of Shinsaibashi, and the business center of Honmachi, the area has become even more accessible.
