Morning Productivity Tips for Night Owls

Not everyone can be a morning person. Think back to those 8 am college classes you were forced to take: they never got any better, right? For many, mornings can be one of the most valuable times of the day, and getting a good start in the early hours can determine the productivity of the rest of the day. If you are not a morning person, yet wake up early in the morning for work, here are some tips for making the most of your mornings.

Keep Your Space Clean

Waking up to an organized and clean space will give you the head start you need. By reducing clutter, you can focus on the tasks you need to accomplish without being distracted. Also, waking up in the morning to a clean and organized space could help you feel more refreshed and focused.

Drink More Water

The benefits of water cannot be understated. Drinking water throughout the day can help balance your energy levels, effectively preventing a crash from getting up earlier. It will also help you stay healthier overall, which may assist in getting better sleep and waking up easier. If you are also trying to lose weight, drink a full glass of water before each meal- it'll aid in digestion and improve your metabolism.

Prioritize Tasks

This goes back to keeping your space clean. For the night owls, the less thinking you have to do in the morning, the better. By having everything in order and ready to go, you can jump directly to being productive. If you prefer checking items off a list, create a to-do list for the next day before you go to bed. This way, you will not be tossing and turning all night, worried that you'll forget something the next day.

Meditation or Yoga

The space between being asleep and being awake is a wall that is often pretty difficult to get over. Getting into a productive mindset is one of the keys to having good mornings. By doing meditation for even just a few minutes, you can center yourself before approaching the day. If meditation is not your thing, yoga could be another option. It holds many of the same benefits while also being a good way to get your blood flowing in the morning.

Exercise

Exercise is proven to help productivity. You do not need to do a full workout, but a quick routine can assist you with energy and alertness, especially if your alarm was painful to hear that morning. The release of endorphins will also help improve your mood going into the day, and can help with your overall mental health. The physical exertion can also help combat stress levels, to help you relax and be more efficient at the same time. Exercising can also help you get better sleep, which in turn means you will have better mornings.

Eating Breakfast

Breakfast is often touted as the most important meal of the day, but that is not an understatement. A healthy breakfast will not only get you going in the morning but will keep you going throughout the day. Some great breakfast options are fruit, Greek yogurt, or oatmeal. These options will help fuel you throughout the day and keep your energy levels up.

Coffee

Last, but never least, coffee is key. From espresso at your local coffee shop to your favorite home brew, coffee will give night owls the kick start they need in the morning. Whether you take it iced or hot, it will help you get going, and keep going. If you can handle it, avoiding cream and sugar in coffee, or replacing them with other options like almond or soy milk can hold a plethora of health benefits and keep you from experiencing a sugar crash later in the day.

Morning productivity takes dedication. While each of these tips will help get you going, it is all up to you to make it work.
