When it Makes Sense to Find Permanent Office Space

. . . .

Typically, a small business will start out in a temporary or home office due to the financial risks associated with running a start-up. But, when a certain level of growth or success is achieved, they'll move their business into a more traditional office space. If you're tired of feeling physically or mentally cramped by your current home office environment, then it may be time to seek an alternative office space for your business. Here are a few signs that the time is right to expand your businesses' horizons by finding a more permanent office space.

Need for Customer Interaction

One of the most obvious warning signs that you need to seek a more professional office space is the overwhelming need to interact with existing and new customers. Whether it's face-to-face meetings with potential clients, video conferences with current clients, or the desire for a professional receptionist who will answer the phones using your company's name, all of the above would be rather difficult to do from the confines of your own home. By choosing an office space for your business, you can take advantage of meeting rooms, reception areas, and a mailing address that looks more professional than a run-of-the-mill PO Box.

Growing Workforce

Unless you live in a 10-bedroom mansion, it's highly unlikely that you'll be able to support more than one employee in a home office environment. Not to mention, hiring an employee to work from your home can be unprofessional and dangerous, depending on the industry. Instead of halting your growth due to the uneasiness of renting an office space, you should seek out an office space that meets your needs. For example, virtual office packages don't require the long-term commitment of a lease and, depending on the package chosen, will give you access to stunning boardrooms, high-tech facilities, a dedicated receptionist, and a corporate address.

Steady Income

Many entrepreneurs operate their start-up out of a home office due to the initial financial constraints of running their own business, but what happens when they start to turn a profit? In most cases, they'll seek more permanent office space. If you're beginning to expand your client base and have been comfortably turning over a profit for more than a few months at a time, then it only make sense to use the extra cash to increase your workspace and the capacity to take on additional clients. If you've been comfortably paying the bills, taxes, and employee salaries with room to spare, then you should definitely look into finding permanent office space.

Regular Distractions

Many small business owners who work from a home office have difficulty separating their home lives from their professional lives. In most cases, the distraction of household chores, mid-day television programs, and parental duties can distract small business owners from what should really matter during business hours – their business. If you believe moving into an office space would improve your productivity and foster the professional atmosphere which every growing business requires, then it may be time to ditch the home office and move into a more professional, accessible, and less-distracting space.
